Townsville police have charged a 40-year-old Palm Island man with a number of offences including two counts of being in possession of a knife as a result of continued proactive patrols across the city.
Around 4.20am on 9 March, officers from the Tactical Crime Squad were conducting a wanding operation at a licenced premises on Charters Towers Road at Hermit Park.
The man was subjected to a metal detection scan which indicated the presence of metal in his pockets.
On inspection, police located alleged drug paraphernalia and a knife on the man.
He was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a knife in a public place, one count of possessing dangerous drugs, one count of possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug office, one count of obstruct police officer, one count of contravene direction or requirement of a police officer.
He was further charged with four counts of breach of bail and one count of failure to appear in accordance with undertaking, for which a warrant had been executed.
He is scheduled to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on 24 March.
Over the next six months, police will deliver highly coordinated, visible and targeted policing activities under Operation Yankee Forge to reduce victimisation and target offenders who cause the greatest harm to Queensland communities.
These efforts will compliment local policing strategies including wanding operations throughout the Townsville District to prevent knife-related crime under Jack’s Law.
