Local police recently conducted a high-visibility traffic enforcement operation in Sarina, aimed at reducing road trauma and dangerous driving behaviours.
As part of Operation Interpose, officers conducted 737 random breath tests (RBTs), intercepted 18 heavy vehicles, and issued 13 traffic infringement notices (TINs) for a number of traffic-related offences.
Police also issued five notices to appear for drug driving and unlicensed driving.
Around 5.40pm on 11 August, police intercepted a blue MG allegedly travelling at 137km/h in an 80km/h zone along Sarina Beach Road.
A 29-year-old Sarina Beach man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h.
He was fined $1986 along with a loss of eight demerit points, and a license suspension of six months.
Around 8am on 11 August, police intercepted a silver Subaru Forester along Broad Street reportedly stolen from a New South Wales address on 10 August.
Police declared a subsequent search of the vehicle and allegedly located a quantity of prescription medications, knives and a drug utensil.
The 42-year-old male driver from Torquay was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving unlicensed, and possess utensils, two counts of possession of a knife in a public place, and three counts of offence to buy or possess S4 medicines.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear before Mackay Magistrates Court on 2 September.
