The search for a missing 49-year-old Coochiemudlo Island man, whose unoccupied fishing vessel was located in Toondah Harbour on 10 July, has been suspended following a large-scale five-day search.

At 4pm on 10 July, a dinghy was located partially submerged in Toondah Harbour, Cleveland.

A marine and aviation search was immediately commenced and a public appeal for information was issued to identify the vessel’s owner.

On 12 July, police identified the vessel belonged to Kelly Watson, a 49-year-old man, who was last seen on Coochiemudlo Island on 9 July.

Between 10 to 14 July, police and emergency services conducted an extensive land, sea and aerial search and rescue operation (SAR) across Coochiemudlo Island and Moreton Bay waters.

Marine crews who assisted with search included Brisbane and Redland Bay Water Police, Marine Rescue Queensland crews from Victoria Point, Sandgate and North Stradbroke Island, Raby Bay Volunteer Marine Rescue, State Emergency Service crews and other partner agency marine rescue vessels.

Aviation support was provided by POLAIR and other partner agency rescue helicopters.

The SAR was suspended last night with no further items or signs of life being located.

Officers continue to be in contact with the man’s family who have been advised of this update.

Police continue to appeal to anyone with information regarding the man’s location or welfare to come forward.
