A 33-year-old Burnside man has had his licence suspended after allegedly being detected travelling 82km/h over the speed limit at Baringa yesterday, 1 July.

Officers from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol allegedly observed the man riding a motorcycle at 142km/h in a 60km/h zone on Graf Drive around 11am.

He was issued a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h. He was fined $1986, accrued eight demerit points and had his licence suspended for six months.

Officer in charge of Highway Patrol Sunshine Coast Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho said police are continuing to target high-speed offences as part of Operation Cold Snap.

“Excessive speeding continues to be one of the most dangerous behaviours on local roads as it significantly increases the severity of a crash,” Senior Sergeant Panoho said.

“The last thing we want to do is tell your loved ones that you won’t be coming home, so every offence we can detect on our roads is a chance to prevent another tragedy.”

As of 2 July, eight lives have been lost on Sunshine Coast roads.
