Police have charged a man after he struck a police vehicle while allegedly attempting to evade officers in Petrie Terrace last night, 19 August.

Around 5pm, officers from Fortitude Valley Tactical Crime Squad were conducting patrols when they observed a dark grey Volkswagen Golf driving north on Petrie Terrace.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle on Pratten Street where it is alleged the Volkswagen collided with the police vehicle and a retaining wall while attempting to flee the scene.

Officers were able to remove the driver from the vehicle and took him into custody.

No officers or members of the public were injured.

It will be further alleged that during search of the Volkswagen, officers located dangerous drugs and weapons, as well as property suspected to be linked to further drug offences.

A 52-year-old Rothwell man has since been charged with eight offences, including evasion offence previous convictions, endangering police officer while driving a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than schedule 4, unlawful possession of weapons Category D/H/R weapon, possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence and possessing dangerous drug.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today, 20 August.
