Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a man who escaped from Townsville Correctional Centre last night, May 7.

21-year-old, Johnathon Barry (pictured) is described as First Nations in appearance, with a medium build, brown eyes and black hair. He also has a left ear piercing and tattoo on his left arm.

Initially, a second person, a 35-year-old man, had also escaped.

However, he has been located and taken into custody.

Investigators believe the 21-year-old may be in the Townsville area.

If you see him or know his whereabouts, do not approach him, contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Two men have escaped Townsville Corrective Centre.
