Police have released photos of a man and a vehicle as part of the investigation into a shooting and assault incident in Surfers Paradise this morning, March 31.

Detectives are seeking to locate 30-year-old Mitchell Barnes (pictured) who they believe will be able to assist investigations.

Just before 2am police were called to a unit block on Peninsula Drive following reports of a disturbance.

It will be alleged an altercation between a man and a woman was occurring inside a unit, when a 44-year-old male neighbour and two other men verbally intervened.

A physical altercation then occurred between the group of men outside the units at which time a 21-year-old man sustained two gunshot wounds to his stomach and a laceration to his upper back.

A 44-year-old man sustained lacerations across his body.

Both were transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A 23-year-old man also sustained minor injuries during the altercation and is in stable condition.

It will be alleged the man had left the scene prior to police arrival, in a white Mazda hatchback, which has since been located on Prosperity Drive at Helensvale.

Investigations indicate that man has then fled in a second vehicle, a 2005 black Toyota Camry sedan bearing New South Wales registration plates “DL 48 YW” (pictured).

Police ask anyone with information as to the whereabouts of 30-year-old Mitchell Barnes to contact them immediately and are urged not to approach him.

Detectives are also appealing to the 38-year-old woman involved in the earlier altercation with the man, prior to the shooting incident, to come forward.
