It’s that time of year again — daylight saving.
To get you up to speed, here’s a quick rundown about what happens where you are and when.
When does daylight saving time start?
Daylight saving will start at 2am on October 6.
Are the clocks going forward or backwards?
Clocks will move forward one hour.
Most clocks linked to technology — phones, computers and TVs — will automatically adjust to the relevant time zone.
But analogue clocks such as the ones on your microwave or oven will likely need to be manually changed.
Which states and territories have daylight saving?
In Australia, clocks will move forward by one hour in:
- Australian Capital Territory
- New South Wales
- South Australia
- Tasmania
- Victoria
Norfolk Island does switch over to daylight saving time, but Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands do not.
The Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia do not observe daylight saving time.
Do you gain or lose an hour of sleep?
Australians living in states/territories who observe daylight saving will lose an hour of sleep on October 6.
When does daylight saving end?
Daylight saving will end on Sunday, April 6 2025 when clocks are turned back to 2am AEST.
