An Adelaide man who allegedly killed a seven-week-old infant in July has been released on bail.
Shane John Marshall, 50, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday after being arrested earlier in the day and charged with manslaughter.
Police will allege the Parafield Gardens man inflicted injuries to the boy on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 24, while the baby was in his care.
In a statement, police said the injured baby was taken by ambulance to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital at about 4pm that day.
They said the baby died from his injuries six days later on Tuesday, July 30, and his death was declared a major crime the next day.
In court on Wednesday, a police prosecutor asked Magistrate Roderick Jensen to impose a suppression order preventing the publication of the defendant’s identity, which he did not grant.
A duty solicitor acting for Mr Marshall asked for her client be released on supervised bail to reside with his parents.
The application was not opposed by prosecution.
Mr Jensen granted Mr Marshall bail due to his non-existent criminal history and the lengthy time before the matter returns to court in January.
