Adelaide Hills motorists have faced delays on their commute into the city after a truck crashed into a busy intersection at the bottom of the South Eastern Freeway.

SA Police said the truck travelling inbound lost control and crashed into a wall at the intersection of Cross Road, Glen Osmond Road and Portrush Road at 3:50am on Wednesday.

A 65-year-old driver from Millicent, in the state’s south-east, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The South Eastern Freeway is open to traffic with speed restrictions, however Cross Road is closed to traffic between Glen Osmond Road and Fullarton Road.

Senior Constable Kate Dawson told ABC Radio Adelaide the driver crashed into a wall just west of The Gateway Fountain.

“We’re getting Major Crash there to give us a hand. I’ve been told the major problem is this wall that [the truck] has crashed into on the northern side … might collapse throughout the morning.

“They can’t remove the truck until the wall has been sured up.”

Police urged motorists heading into the city to leave early or find an alternative route.
