Two people have narrowly avoided being hit by a van that “became airborne” and ploughed into the front lounge of a house in the Adelaide Hills overnight.

Key points:

  • Police said two people and a dog were in the lounge when a van smashed through the front window
  • They avoided serious injuries
  • The 27-year-old driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries

Police said the pair was lucky to avoid serious injury in the crash, which left a gaping hole in the facade of the home at Nairne.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Woodside Road about 11pm, after the van “left the road, became airborne” and crashed into the house’s front window.

“Two male occupants and their pet dog had been sitting in the front lounge room at the time,” police said.

The 27-year-old Milang man who was driving the van was taken to hospital at Mount Barker for treatment of minor injuries, and to have a blood sample taken, police said.

The van was towed from the scene, and the State Emergency Service has propped up the front wall of the property for safety reasons.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
