- Authorities were called to Wark Court at Morphett Vale after reports a woman was unresponsive
- SA Police say they found a 39-year-old Encounter Bay woman dead inside the home
- A 40-year-old Morphett Vale man was charged with murder and will front court today
Emergency services were called to Wark Court at Morphett Vale just after 7pm following reports that a person was unresponsive.
SA Police said officers found a 39-year-old Encounter Bay woman dead at the scene.
A 40-year-old Morphett Vale man, who police said was known to the woman, was arrested and charged with murder.
He was refused bail and will appear at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.
Detectives returned to the scene this morning to search for more evidence, including inside a car parked out the front of the house.
Neighbour Georgi Mew, who saw police arrive at the house, said her family was shocked to find out what had happened.
“We thought it was a drug bust or something like that,” she said.
“You don’t expect that your next-door neighbour has murdered somebody.
“When you actually find out what’s going on, you watch your neighbour be handcuffed and taken away, it’s quite scary.
“We really feel for the young woman’s family. It’s really tragic for them.”
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
