A fifth man has faced court charged over the alleged gang rape of a young woman in Adelaide’s western suburbs in June.

Key points:

  • Mohammed Abdi Abdulahi was extradited from Victoria on Thursday, police said
  • He is the fifth man arrested over the alleged rape in Adelaide’s west
  • The 26-year-old did not apply for bail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court

Mohammed Abdi Abdulahi, 26, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court after being extradited from Victoria by detectives from the Special Crimes Investigation Section.

He did not apply for bail.

He is one of five men charged with sexually assaulting a young woman on Sunday, June 18.

Four other men — a 27-year-old and a 22-year-old from Adelaide’s west, a 22-year-old from Victoria and a 24-year-old from South Australia’s south-east — remain in custody.

Some have bail applications later this month, and the case was listed for a committal hearing in September.

The south-east man appeared last week in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court, which heard that police were, at that time, still seeking a fifth suspect who was then “outstanding”.
