South Australia Police are searching for a woman who called triple-zero from a public phone box in Adelaide’s north-east yesterday in a distressed state, telling the operator she had recently given birth.
Police said the woman made the call from the phone box on the corner of Shelley Street and North East Road at Tea Tree Gully at 12:35am yesterday.
The woman ended the call before the operator could obtain any of her details.
Police said they have “grave concerns” for the woman’s welfare and believe she is in urgent need of medical assistance.
Yesterday investigators conducted extensive enquiries and searched the area around the phone box with help from State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers but did not find any physical evidence to help locate the woman or baby.
“Investigators are asking for the woman to contact triple-zero (000) again so we can check that she and her baby are safe,” police said in a statement.
“Police are seeking information from anyone who can identify the woman or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage in the vicinity of the phone box.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
