Police are investigating after three people were reportedly assaulted at a house, which was then destroyed by fire, on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula.
Key points:
- Emergency services were called to Carrickalinga after reports that three people had been assaulted
- The house where the incident occurred was on fire
- Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, but the house was destroyed
SA Police said emergency services were called to a home in the coastal town of Carrickalinga about 2:50am on Sunday after reports three people had been assaulted by a person known to them, and the house where the incident occurred was on fire.
Police said when officers arrived, they found a 37-year-old Carrickalinga man attempting to leave the scene on a motorbike.
He was detained and police said they expect to charge him with a “number of serious offences”.
Police said three people, a 34-year-old Carrickalinga woman, a 48-year-old Carrickalinga man and a 52-year-old Keyneton man, received non-life-threatening injuries.
The 34-year-old woman and 52-year-old man were taken to hospital for treatment.
The Country Fire Service (CFS) said volunteer firefighters on six trucks attended the scene at 3:10am and found the house “fully involved”.
The CFS said the home was destroyed, with the damage estimated at $250,000, but crews were able to prevent the spread of the fire and save a neighbouring house.
Police said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.
