In 1982, detectives investigated the disappearance of 1,000 ounces of gold which was being transported from a Kalgoorlie gold mine to the Perth Mint.
The gold, worth about $300,000 at the time, was flown to Perth but when it arrived at the Mint the gold had been replaced with five lead bars coated with paint.
