A man charged with faking his death has been denied bail in Whyalla Magistrates Court.

Jacob Norris’s car had been found abandoned on the Esplanade at Aldinga Beach on July 13, with police believing he had entered the water and drowned.

South Australia Police launched a large-scale search, but Mr Norris was later found more than 300 kilometres away at Quorn.

The court heard Mr Norris was found with equipment such as a swag, all-terrain socks and a fire starter pack.

The court also heard Mr Norris had been seen after his disappearance at Aldinga Beach on the Port Augusta Highway, where he got a lift north, telling the driver he planned to work at a hotel in Hawker.

The magistrate denied an application for home detention bail at Mr Norris’s grandfather’s house.

Mr Norris will appear in court again in September.
