The lawyer for a South Australian relief teacher accused of child grooming has told a court the case may not proceed, depending on the outcome of a meeting.

Key points:

  • Ammy Singleton, 28, is facing a child grooming charge
  • She faced the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on Wednesday
  • Magistrate David McLeod has adjourned the matter to return to court in August

Ammy Singleton, 28, faced the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning charged with communicating to make a child amenable to sexual activity.

Ms Singleton’s lawyer, Alexander Hosking, requested the matter be adjourned for two weeks for a meeting to be held to discuss more evidence.

“We would’ve conducted that meeting a lot earlier, but, unfortunately, we’re relying on the investigating officers’ availability,” Mr Hosking said.

Magistrate David McLeod adjourned the matter to return to court in August and said the case was currently being reviewed by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Magistrate McLeod also said there was evidence being considered by the Department for Child Protection.

Prosecutors allege Ms Singleton groomed a 16-year-old boy at Port Augusta in November last year.

She previously appeared in court in May, when the court heard the victim contacted her after seeing a picture of her at a sporting club.
