The Country Fire Service says a fire has caused more than $1 million worth of damage to shops at Mount Compass, on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, south of Adelaide.
A bakery, a butcher and a vacant shop were destroyed when fire ripped through the Victor Harbor Road shopping complex about 3:30am.
Several others shops were damaged, along with a home.
More than 40 firefighters battled the blaze.
Some are expected to remain at the scene during the day today to extinguish hotspots.
The cause is still being investigated.
Victor Harbor Road has reopened after earlier being closed.
