A man has been charged with manslaughter over the death of another man in hospital, more than a week after an alleged roadside fight on a busy Adelaide CBD street.

Key points:

  • Cheltenham man Brian Richardson, 70, died after suffering head injuries during an altercation
  • He was taken to hospital following the alleged fight in Adelaide’s CBD on April 1
  • A charge against his alleged attacker has been upgraded to manslaughter

Police will allege the occupants of a Honda sedan and taxi were involved in a fight on West Terrace in the city on the evening of April 1.

Cheltenham man Brian Richardson, 70, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious head injuries.

He died in hospital yesterday.

A 30-year-old man from Mansfield Park was initially charged over the assault and bailed to appear in court at a later date but that charge was last night updated to manslaughter.

His bail was revoked and he was re-arrested by police ahead of a court hearing.

Police today released an image of Mr Richardson, supplied by his family.

They are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash-cam footage which is yet to be provided to investigating officers to contact Crime Stoppers.
