A man charged with the murder of a young mother in South Australia’s south-east has not applied for bail in his first court appearance.
Key points:
- Synamin Bell’s body was found at her house on Saturday
- Cody Edwards has appeared in court charged with her murder
- He did not apply for bail
Cody James Edwards, 25, appeared via video link in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court today from custody at the local police station.
He has been charged with murdering 26-year-old Millicent mother-of-three Synamin Bell, after her body was found in a Poole Street property on Saturday night.
Police have previously described the crime as a “domestic incident”.
Mr Edwards did not apply for bail.
The police prosecution asked Magistrate Koula Kossiavelos to adjourn the case for one year due to the large amount of evidence, including analysis of fingerprints and DNA, blood splatter and mobile phones.
Magistrate Kossiavelos decided to bring the matter back in nine months to give the court a “better picture” of how the investigation was travelling.
Mr Edwards was remanded in custody until his next court appearance in December.
Ms Bell’s children are aged six, four and three.
Ms Bell’s brother Luke McGaughey yesterday said he and his family were going through shock and grief and that their priority was “looking after [Synamin’s] children and keeping her memory alive”.
