A man whose abandoned kayak sparked an extensive search in waters off South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula has been found alive and well.

At about 5:45pm last night SA Police was contacted with reports of an empty kayak drifting about 80 metres from the shore between the caravan park at Rapid Bay and the jetty.
Witnesses told police they had seen a man fishing in the kayak earlier in the afternoon.
The search was conducted by the Police Water Operations Unit along with local officers, the PolAir helicopter, State Emergency Service crews and Sea Rescue volunteers.
Just before 1:00pm today the man phone police identifying himself as the owner of the kayak.
He told them he had fallen into the water yesterday afternoon, and being unable to tow the kayak back to shore, he abandoned it, swam to shore and drove home.
Police said they would like to thank the public and the volunteers for their assistance.
