A man has been arrested after allegedly hitting two police officers with a car in Adelaide’s northern suburbs this morning.

Key points:

  • Two police officers were taken to hospital after being hit by a car
  • The arrested man was found after fleeing in another car and then on foot
  • A ute was set on fire overnight in the same suburb

Police said they arrived at a property on Heytesbury Road at Davoren Park about 10:00am as part of an “ongoing investigation” when a car took off, hitting a female officer and a male officer in the driveway.

Both officers suffered leg injuries and were taken to the Calvary Hospital by ambulance.

A third officer was able to jump out the way and avoid being hit.

Police searched the area for the Ford Festiva involved, locating it abandoned in Barbaro Court, Munno Para West, soon after.

They believe the suspect then drove off in a red Mitsubishi sedan, which was tracked to the intersection of Ryan Road and Supple Road in Waterloo Corner.

The 28-year-old Davoren Park man was found on foot nearby soon after with the help of police dogs and STAR Group officers.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of assaulting a prescribed emergency worker and three counts of endangering life.

Police said he is likely to be refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Friday.

The Ford Festiva, Mitsubishi sedan and a stolen Holden sedan — also located at the Heytesbury Road property — were all seized.

Also, in Davoren Park overnight, police believe a ute destroyed in a fire was the same one that rammed a patrol car in Smithfield in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Witnesses saw another ute leaving the scene around the time of the fire at 2:30am.
