The woman, believed to be 30 years old, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with head, arm and abdominal injuries.

SA Health said she is in a serious but stable condition.

Inspectors from the Town of Gawler Council removed the dog on Tuesday afternoon.

In a statement, mayor Karen Redman said the council’s community safety officers attended the scene at about 11:00am on Tuesday, at the request of SA Police.

“The victim had been taken by emergency services to hospital for treatment,” Ms Redman’s statement read.

“The dog’s owner is cooperating fully with investigators.”
