Police say they are treating the deaths of a 46-year-old man and a 72-year-old man in Adelaide’s western suburbs as a murder-suicide.
Key points:
- A woman came home to find her husband and son dead
- Police believe her husband killed her son
- They plan to seize weapons found at the scene
Police were called to the West Lakes home around 1:30pm.
They say they believe it was a father who killed his son before taking his own life.
The wife of the older man — the mother of the younger man — arrived home to discover the two bodies in the garage of the Allerdice Court house.
Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
It was believed the son was severely disabled and in a wheelchair.
Detective Inspector Mark Atkinson from SA Police said weapons at the scene would be seized ahead of a report being prepared for the coroner.
He said there was no sign of what was to come.
“This is a lovely family, well respected by their neighbours,” he said.
“They lived here a long time, it’s a shock to them.
“Clearly, there is a lot of sadness in this street today — it came unexpectedly.
“There was certainly no red flags here; this was certainly one of those tragic situations, which was unavoidable, which makes it even more upsetting for the neighbours and the family.”
