The Queensland Police Service (QPS) recently hosted a Safety and Wellbeing Mini Expo at Ripley Police Station to connect police officers with a broad range of support services aimed at promoting health, resilience and wellbeing across the organisation.
The event was held in recognition of National Safe Work Month throughout October and showcased the support available to QPS staff members.
Bringing together internal safety and wellbeing teams and external service providers, the event provided an opportunity for staff to connect with them directly and learn more about the initiatives and resources designed to support their health, safety and wellbeing.
The QPS recognises the integral role officers play in community safety and the pressures which can come with frontline policing.
Manager of Wellbeing Services Leigh Turvey highlighted the importance of taking care of the people who serve our community.
“It’s important to take care of our people because they go out into the community to take care of everyone else,” Leigh said.
“If our people are happy, healthy and safe, they’ll have happy, healthy and long careers and take care of their community to the best of their capability.”
The event raised awareness and encouraged engagement with various support programs and teams from the QPS, with particular focus on physical, psychological, social or spiritual support.
Initiatives like this reinforce the QPS’s ongoing commitment to creating a safe and supportive workplace, recognising that the health, safety and wellbeing of the Service’s people are essential to a strong and resilient workforce.
The wellbeing expo is designed to make it easier for officers to learn about the services available to them and to seek support early when needed.
