Friday 30 October marks Day for Daniel, when we honour Daniel Morcombe’s legacy by reminding Queenslanders of the importance of child safety and harm prevention through education and proactive strategies.

Queensland Police Service (QPS) has a long history of working closely with families, communities and partner agencies to help prevent harm and protect children.

Day for Daniel is an opportunity to share knowledge and resources to enable everyone to play a vital role in child safety through awareness and action.

As part of Daniel Morcombe’s enduring legacy, Daniel’s Law was introduced to Queensland last year, and its associated resources are now well established as a valuable tool for parents, guardians and communities across the state to help safeguard children.

As of 9am on 27 October 2026, there were:

  • more than 425,000 visits to the Daniel’s Law Community Protection website
  • more than 48,000 Locality Search applications submitted
  • 263 Parent and Guardian Disclosure applications submitted
  • 23 reportable offenders identified through Parent and Guardian Disclosure applications
  • 3 reportable offenders charged for allegedly breaching reporting obligations.

QPS encourages parents and guardians to continue using the Daniel’s Law website to make informed decisions, stay alert and access practical educational resources to help educate children about personal safety.

Teaching them how to identify unsafe situations, minimise risk and seek help from a trusted adult is an important part of child harm prevention.

Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Troy Pukallus said Day for Daniel is a powerful reminder that child protection is everyone’s responsibility.

“Families and communities play a vital role alongside police and support services in helping prevent harm and keeping children safe,” Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Pukallus said.

“We encourage parents and carers to access the Daniel’s Law website, have open and age-appropriate conversations with their children, and help them understand how to recognise unsafe situations and speak to a trusted adult,” he said.

“If you know of a child experiencing abuse, neglect, or who may be at risk of harm, please report it.

“Your actions could make a life-changing difference for a child’s safety and wellbeing.”
