Moreton District police have charged a teenager following investigations into the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle in Caboolture on 22 October, as part of the ongoing Taskforce Yankee Tread.

Between 3pm and 8pm, it is alleged a black Ford Falcon was observed being driven dangerously in Mango Hill, Burpengary and Clontarf.

It is further alleged around 4.20pm, the occupants were observed leaning out of the window while the vehicle was travelling at high speeds on the Bruce Highway at Caboolture.

On 25 October following further enquiries, the Falcon was located abandoned in bushland near Twin View Road in Elimbah and seized.

The same day, police also attended an address in Burpengary and arrested a 15-year-old Burpengary boy.

He has since been charged with nine offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, passenger travelling with a body part outside a vehicle, driving without proper control of a vehicle, driving without due care and attention, wilfully creating unnecessary noise, driving without a licence, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and face masked for the commission of an indictable offence.

He is due to face Caboolture Childrens Court today, 26 October.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing, and police are appealing for anyone with relevant dashcam vision to come forward.

Taskforce Yankee Tread was launched in August to target dangerous driving behaviour across the district, and Officer in Charge of Moreton District Tactical Crime Squad Senior Sergeant Tom Jakes said he is extremely proud of the dedication of the officers involved.

“This incident demonstrated an extremely reckless disregard for the safety of the occupants, other road users and members of the public,” he said.

“The community can be assured that dangerous driving behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated. Those involved in hooning activities should expect that we will continue to utilise every available investigative avenue to identify offenders and hold them accountable.”
