Bundaberg Police are reminding motorists to ensure their vehicles are compliant, following a joint operation with Transport and Main Roads (TMR) targeting defective vehicles in the area.
Highway Patrol officers worked alongside TMR Compliance officers to intercept 164 vehicles for defect checks over a four-day operation between 15 and 18 October.
A total of 76 defect notices were issued including 56 for major defects. 53 penalty infringement notices (PINs) were also issued for offences such as unregistered vehicles, unapproved modifications, load restraints and vehicles being over mass.
Police also conducted more than 120 roadside breath tests during the operation and eight random drug tests, one of which allegedly returned a positive result for drug driving.
15 traffic infringement notices (TINs) were also issued for offences including speeding, unregistered and uninsured vehicles, expired driver licenses and creating unnecessary noise or smoke.
Officer in Charge of Bundaberg Highway Patrol Sergeant Gordon Hard said police will continue to work with other agencies to target defective vehicles on roads and beaches across the division.
