Detectives from the Tablelands Property Crime Unit with assistance from the Tablelands Criminal Investigation Branch and Malanda Police have located five rifles allegedly stolen from a Millaa Millaa address earlier this month.
On 9 October, police executed search warrants at Pine Street and Beatrice Way addresses and located all five rifles and ammunition.
Later that day, a 14-year-old Millaa Millaa boy was arrested in Atherton.
He was charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a category A, B or M weapon, two counts of trespass, and one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence, authority to possess explosives, and discharge of weapon on private land without consent.
He is due to appear in the Atherton Childrens Court on 13 October.
Officer in the Charge of the Tablelands Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Sergeant Gary Hall said police acted quickly to recover the stolen firearms.
“We know that stolen firearms in the hands of the wrong people present a serious threat to community safety,” Detective Senior Sergeant Hall said.
“It’s crucial that weapons licence holders properly secure their firearms in compliant weapons safes, and take adequate security measures including installing CCTV cameras, security screens and deadlocks.”
