Around 2.30pm, a 10-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were travelling in a tinny on the Nerang River when their vessel capsized due to the allegedly dangerous operation of two nearby jet skis.
Police attended and located the two boys uninjured before assisting with the recovery of the vessel, which had sustained damage to its motor.
A short time later, Water Police intercepted two jet skis and identified the operators as boys aged 15 and 16.
On 6 October, officers from the Gold Coast Water Police executed search warrants at Broadbeach Waters and Mermaid Waters addresses, where two jet skis were seized.
As a result of ongoing investigations by Gold Coast Water Police, a 16-year-old Mermaid Waters boy was charged yesterday, 7 October, with two counts of common assault and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle and wilful damage. He was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
The boy was also issued with a Marine Infringement Notice for freestyling within 30m of another watercraft.
