Ipswich Tactical Crime Squad (TCS) have charged a man with weapon and drug offences following a search of a Wulkuraka property on 2 October.

As part of a protracted investigation, officers from TCS along with detectives from Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch attended an address at around 10am where it is alleged the man attempted to flee before he was arrested.

During a search of the property, police allegedly located a homemade firearm, ammunition, counterfeit money, an amount of methamphetamine and drug utensils.

A 42-year-old Wulkuraka man has been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a Category H weapon, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing counterfeit money, possessing utensils and authority required to possess explosives.

He appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday, 6 October.

Ipswich Tactical Crime Squad Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Michelle Blaney said police will continue to pursue people involved in the possession of illicit firearms and dangerous drugs.

“Illicit firearms are a serious threat to community safety, and we will continue to do everything within our power to identify where these weapons are being stored and remove them from our streets,” Senior Sergeant Blaney said.

“This investigation demonstrates that police will take decisive action when we identify people allegedly involved in the possession of firearms and dangerous drugs.

“Our message is clear — if you unlawfully possess a firearm, you can expect police to come looking for you. We will continue to use targeted investigations and search warrants to disrupt this type of activity and protect the community.”
