A man has been charged with animal cruelty offences following an incident in The Common on 4 October.
Around 6pm, officers were called to sporting fields on Robert Clark Drive, following reports a man in his 50s had wounded a dog.
The dog then died at the scene as a result of the injury.
It is alleged the man, a 57-year-old from Julia Creek, then fled the scene in vehicle.
Officers located the man a short time later and took him into custody.
He has since been charged with one count of injuring animals.
The man is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on 21 October.
