Far North police are continuing to target high-harm property offenders, causing harm in the Cairns community.

On 26 August, a 17-year-old Earlville boy allegedly stole a red Subaru CV from a Woree home.

On 31 August, officers from the Tactical Crime Squad and Property Crime Squad located the boy at a Mulgrave Road address, before he allegedly climbed onto a roof and was taken into custody.

He was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He was remanded in custody to reappear in the Cairns Childrens Court on 8 September.

Acting Chief Superintendent Mick Searle said while police are continuing to apprehend offenders, there’s more work to be done.

“I can assure the community that we will not relent in our efforts to bring high-harm offenders before the court,” Acting Chief Superintendent Searle said.

“We know the impacts property crime has on victims in our community, and we have absolutely zero-tolerance for it.

“Anyone who thinks they can break into someone’s home or steal a car and get away with it will find themselves sorely mistaken.”
