Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) Far North officers have charged five people as part of Operation Yankee Ghostrail and Operation Yankee Nightwhisper.

The operations were launched in August 2026 to investigate the supply of dangerous drugs in the Cairns Safe Night Precinct.

On 21 August, MOCS officers with assistance from the Tactical Crime Squad executed three search warrants in Mount Sheridan, Cairns City and Cairns North.

It will be alleged police seized quantities of Methylamphetamine, MDMA, steroids, Cocaine, and drug utensils.

A 24-year-old Mount Sheridan man was charged with six counts of supplying dangerous drugs (MDMA and Cocaine), two counts of possess dangerous drugs (steroids), and one count each of trafficking in dangerous drugs (cocaine and MDMA) and possess anything used in the commission of a crime.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 20 October.

A 33-year-old Cairns City man was charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than Schedule 4 (MDMA and Methylamphetamine), and one count each of possess dangerous drug (Testosterone, dehydromethyltestosterone, Nandrolone Decanoate and Nandrolone Phenylpropionate), possess anything used in the commission of a crime, and unlawful possession of a Schedule 4 medicine (Oxandrolone, Anadrol, Mast e Drostanolone Enanthate).

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 7 September.

A 30-year-old Cairns North man was charged with two counts of possess dangerous drugs (Cocaine and Cannabis) and one count of possess drug utensil.

He was dealt with by way of adult caution.

On 26 August, MOCS officers with assistance from the Tactical Crime Squad and Dog Squad executed search warrants at Parramatta Park and Cairns City properties.

It will be alleged police located approximately 460 grams of Cocaine at a Parramatta Park property, under the sink.

A 28-year-old Parramatta Park man was charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 4 (Cocaine), and contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

He was refused bail to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 27 August.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at a Cairns City address and charged with one count of contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 11 September.

Major and Organised Crime Squad Far North Officer in Charge Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace said efforts to tackle the movement of illicit substances in the Far North will continue.

“I cannot fathom how these alleged offenders find it acceptable to bring these dangerous drugs into our community, and cause harm to the public,” Detective Senior Sergeant Grace said.

“Every gram of cocaine, methylamphetamine and MDMA we seize is a gram that cannot make its way into the hands of young people heading to nightclubs and bars in our CBD.

“The community can be assured that operations like these will continue to target those profiting from the illicit drug trade, and offenders will be apprehended and brought before the court.”
