The Queensland Police Service (QPS) welcomed 126 new police officers into its ranks on Thursday night following the Service’s largest graduation of the year at the Brisbane Academy.

The First Year Constables (FYCs) will be stationed in communities across Queensland, from Brisbane and Ipswich to Cooktown and Mount Isa, bringing a breadth of professional experience, cultural backgrounds and life perspectives that reflect the diverse communities they will serve.

Acting Commissioner of Police Brett Pointing commended the latest cohort of officers and welcomed them to the police service.

“From metropolitan centres to regional and remote communities, these officers will play an important role in strengthening community confidence and keeping everyday Queenslanders safe,” Acting Commissioner Pointing said.

“From the moment our first year constables put on the blue uniform, they commit to making a meaningful difference in serving the community.”

Constable Jack Jeffery, a silver medallist with Team Torian at the 2024 CrossFit Games, was among the graduates. Seeking a new challenge beyond the sporting arena, he chose to pursue a career with the QPS.

“I was looking for a career that would push me out of my comfort zone and provide opportunities to grow personally and professionally,” Constable Jeffery said.

“CrossFit has taught me resilience, discipline and perseverance, qualities that align closely with policing. I’m excited to bring those skills to the role and serve the Queensland community.”

After serving in the Australian Army, Constable Ryan Brown has realised a long-held ambition by joining the QPS. He will begin his career in Cooktown, where he is looking forward to embracing the unique opportunities of regional policing.

“As a Brisbane local, I saw Cooktown as an opportunity to experience regional Queensland, build strong community connections and make a meaningful contribution as a police officer,” Constable Brown said.

Among the graduates was Constable Niki Dixon, whose decision to become a police officer came after nine years working behind the scenes in QPS education and training, helping prepare members for their careers.

“Working within QPS gave me a real appreciation for the people behind the badge, but I reached a point where I wanted to challenge myself and serve the community in a more direct way. Recruit training has been demanding but rewarding, and I’m proud to now be joining the profession I spent years supporting,” Constable Dixon said.

For Constable Josua Ratuvuki, pursuing a career in policing was an opportunity to create a lasting legacy for his family and community.

“I moved to Australia from Fiji when I was 10 years old, and joining the QPS is an opportunity to make my family proud and set an example for the next generation. Being able to serve the community in this role is something I’m incredibly proud of,” Constable Ratuvuki said.

As they begin their careers in communities across Queensland, the new officers will join their colleagues on the frontline, working to keep Queenslanders safe and build strong relationships with the communities they serve.
