Detectives from Mossman Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a 40-year-old Port Douglas man following a protracted investigation.

In July this year, police launched Operation Yankee Mercator following several reports of a man acting indecently at a number of resorts in Port Douglas.

It will be alleged between July 2023 and July 2026 the man exposed himself to several children and adults at the resorts.

On 18 August, police executed a search warrant at a Port Douglas Road property and took him into custody.

He was charged with eleven counts of indecent act in any place to which the public are permitted access, five counts of indecent treatment of children under 16, and two counts of trespass.

He was refused bail to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, 19 August.

Police would like to thank resort staff for their cooperation during the operation.
