Officers from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) charged a 22-year-old man yesterday 17 August, following a fatal single-vehicle crash at Stratford on 21 June.

Officers were called to Stratford Road around 4.13am following reports an allegedly stolen grey Toyota Fortuna left the roadway and rolled.

A 12-year-old boy was declared deceased at the scene, and three adults aged 19, 20 and 22 were transported to Cairns Hospital.

It will be alleged the man broke into a Pomona Avenue property and stole the Fortuna.  It is further alleged he was driving the vehicle when it crashed.

The man has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, and one count each of driving of a motor vehicle without a licence, driving over general alcohol limit but not over the middle alcohol limit, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, and breach of bail.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court today, 18 August.
