Two people were rescued by a Queensland Government Air (QGAir) rescue 500 helicopter at Mount Barney on Wednesday, 12 August.

At about 2.20pm, police and emergency services received reports that two men were stuck on the side of Mount Barney, one with leg injuries, during high winds.

At about 2.45pm, the QGAir R500 was tasked with rescuing the men.

Despite the difficult location and challenging winds, the two men were located about 100 metres from the summit and winched to safety.

They were airlifted to the foothills of Mount Barney, where paramedics assessed them at about 4.20pm.

Acting Assistant Commissioner David French says this is a great example of the important work the QGAir crew does, helping Queenslanders in collaboration with police and ambulance services.

“This rescue highlights the fantastic work from the pilots of our QGAir fleet. They were able to navigate a rescue in a difficult location with difficult weather conditions,” Mr French said.

“Our pilots, crew and support staff work closely with emergency response teams, including police and ambulance, to be able to provide Queensland with safety, support and reassurance in times of need.”

“These aircraft are essential in delivering aeromedical support, search and rescue operations, law enforcement, and government support.”
