Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) due to an ongoing incident in Bamaga.
Police and emergency services were called to a storage waste dump at Lui Street and Pajinka Road, following reports of a fire.
A PSPA was declared about 6.20pm with the exclusion zone encompassing Pajinka Street, Lui Street, Airport Road and Army Back Road.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and remain indoors and close their windows until further notice.
A number of roads in the area may be affected.
Residents and motorists are urged to avoid the area, to drive to condition and follow police direction.
