Detectives from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a 59-year-old man following a unit fire in Bungalow this morning, 31 July. 

Emergency services were called to an Allan Street address around 12.37am and evacuated several residents.

The sole occupant of the unit on fire, a 59-year-old man, self-evacuated before police arrival and was transported to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was declared and all residents were transported to overnight accommodation.

The 59-year-old man was arrested around 12pm today and charged with one count of arson.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow, 1 August.
