Police have declared a crime scene at Yengarie following an incident overnight in which a police officer was shot.

Officers were initially called to residence at approximately 5:44pm last night, 24 July, for a domestic violence matter.

It will be alleged a 45-year-old Gundiah man approached officers upon their arrival at the address and shot at police.

During the incident, a First Year Constable (FYC) sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

A Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) declaration was made at 5.45pm.

Specialised police attended the scene at 9.21pm, and a search of the property located the 45-year-old man deceased.

The officer was transported to hospital for treatment and in a stable condition.

No other police officers or members of the public were injured during the incident.

The matter will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission, reporting to the State Coroner.
