An investigation is underway following a three-vehicle traffic crash on the Gore Highway at Southbrook overnight, 22 July.
Initial investigations indicate at around 8.30pm a white Holden Commodore sedan was travelling west towards Pittsworth when it overtook a road train travelling in the same direction while negotiating a bend.
It is alleged the Holden then encountered an oncoming semi-trailer travelling east and attempted to move back into the westbound lane, colliding with the front right side of the road train before sideswiping the semi-trailer.
The Holden left the roadway, coming to rest beside the highway.
The driver then allegedly fled the scene on foot into surrounding farmland.
The vehicles three passengers, an 18-year-old Dirranbandi man, a 19-year-old Talwood woman and an 11-month-old baby, were assessed for minor injuries.
The drivers of the road train, a 45-year-old Helensvale man and the semi-trailer, a 53-year-old Marsden man were not physically injured.
The road train received significant damage to one of its trailers after it overturned while the semi-trailer and Holden sustained moderate damage.
The crash resulted in the Gore Highway being closed for five hours while the scene was cleared.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, observed the white Holden Commodore prior to the crash, or has relevant dashcam footage from the Gore Highway in the Southbrook/Pittsworth area at the time, to contact Policelink.
