Police have charged a man following the alleged assault of another man on the Cairns Esplanade on 15 July.

It will be alleged that around 6.30pm, an altercation occurred between two groups near the Esplanade, resulting in a 28-year-old Upper Coomera man being pushed over a retaining wall onto rocks below.

The man sustained serious injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to Cairns Hospital for further treatment.

Following investigations, police arrested a 35-year-old Woree man.

He has been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and is due to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court today, 16 July.
