Police have charged a teen following investigations into the theft of vehicle keys from a number of gyms across Brisbane.

It will be alleged between 2 March and 19 April the teen committed a number of property crime and vehicle theft offences across Herston, Rocklea, Bulimba, East Brisbane, Inala, Chapel Hill and South Brisbane.

The teen allegedly stole the vehicle keys by accessing insecure gym lockers.

On 19 April, police located the teen travelling in a white 2024 Hyundai across Brisbane Region.

Responding local crews, with the assistance of POLAIR, successfully deployed a Tyre Deflation Device in Inala and arrested the boy.

It will be further alleged the Hyundai was stolen from a Broadbeach Waters address on 18 April.

A 17-year-old Murarrie boy has been charged with 23 offences including five counts each of unlawful use of motor vehicles (UUMV) – use and enter premises and commit indictable offence, three counts of UUMV – use in night in company, two counts each of attempted enter dwelling with intent and enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, and one count each of enter premises and commit indicatable offence by break and stealing.

His police bail was refused, and he is expected to appear before Brisbane Childrens Court today, 20 April.

Three other teens were also located in the stolen vehicle and have subsequently been charged.

A 15-year-old Inala boy has been charged with one count each of UUMV – use, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, and dangerous operation of a vehicle. His police bail was refused, and he is expected to appear before Richlands Childrens Court today, 20 April.

A 17-year-old Cannon Hill girl has been charged with one count each of UUMV – use in company, possessing dangerous drugs, and stealing. She is expected to appear before Brisbane Childrens Court on 5 May.

A 15-year-old Redland Bay girl has been charged with two counts each of possessing dangerous drugs and stealing, and one count of UUMV – use in company. She is expected to appear before Richlands Childrens Court on 21 May.

Investigations remain ongoing.

Anyone with information or vision are encouraged to contact police.

Police are encouraging all gym users to lock and secure their personal items, including car keys, when they are at the gym.

Gym goers are urged to use lockable gym lockers wherever available or keep vehicle keys and other valuables on your person.

Remain vigilant when entering and exiting gyms, make sure you are not letting unknown people through the door where a fob pass is required.

If you see anything suspicious, alert gym staff or report it to police.
