Detectives from the Tablelands Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a 34-year-old Mareeba man in relation to the death of a 54-year-old Mareeba woman this morning, 16 April.

It will be alleged around 7.15am, police were called to a Downs Street property and located the woman deceased.

A crime scene was declared and the 34-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene.

Police allege the man and woman were known to each other.

He was charged with one count each of murder (domestic violence offence), misconduct of a corpse by interfering (domestic violence offence) and contravention of a domestic violence order (aggravated offence). 

He was refused police bail and is due to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court tomorrow, 17 April.

Police are urging anyone who was in the Downs Street area between 3.30pm on 15 April and 7.15am on 16 April, and who may have information or relevant vision, to come forward.
