Detectives from the Tablelands Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a 54-year-old woman in Mareeba this morning, 16 April.
Emergency services were called to a Downs Street property around 7.15am and located the woman deceased.
A crime scene was declared and a 34-year-old man, known to the woman, was taken into custody at the scene.
There is no ongoing threat to the public.
Investigations in the circumstances of the woman’s death are ongoing.
Police are urging anyone who was in the Downs Street area between 3.30pm on 15 April and 7.15am on 16 April, and who may have information or relevant vision, to come forward.
