The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has welcomed 61 new officers to the frontline, following their graduation from the QPS Academy in Brisbane.
The First Year Constables bring with them a wealth of skills and life experiences, with backgrounds including Defence, nursing, farming and hospitality.
The officers’ diverse backgrounds will help strengthen the Service’s ability to connect with and serve communities across Queensland, from the bustling Gold Coast to the remote beauty of Thursday Island.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Brett Pointing APM, congratulated the graduates as they begin their policing careers across the state.
“I commend our newest officers for choosing a career dedicated to community service,” Acting Commissioner Pointing said.
“Policing is a profession of remarkable breadth and opportunity. Whether in General Duties or specialist roles, it offers a career that is challenging, dynamic and deeply rewarding.”
“With their diverse skills, experiences and perspectives, these officers are well placed to serve their communities with courage and integrity and meaningfully contribute to a safer Queensland.”
Following a lengthy career in the Australian Defence Force (ADF), Constable Adam Menteith returns to Townsville to commence his policing career.
“Becoming a police officer is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a child, and I’m incredibly proud to begin this journey,” Constable Menteith said.
“It’s even more special to be joining my wife who is a General Duties Constable in her second year of service in Townsville District. Service is something I’ve always held very close to my heart, from my time in the ADF to now transitioning into the QPS.”
“I believe service is probably the best thing you can do with your life and I’m looking forward to continuing to serve my community back home in Townsville.”
“As an older recruit, I’ve enjoyed challenging myself at the academy, both physically and mentally, particularly through the study of legislation, and I look forward to putting my experience and training into practice.”

After working in the mining industry and serving in the ADF, Constable Francois Southey embarks on his next chapter as a Queensland police officer in the Ipswich District.
“I was drawn to a policing career because of the variety – no two shifts are the same, and there are so many different roles to explore,” Constable Southey said.
“For me, it’s all about getting out into the community, connecting with people and making a positive difference in someone’s life.”
“Our time at the academy has been both challenging and rewarding, and I’m grateful for the guidance and support of our experienced instructors, who have shared their invaluable knowledge with us.”
Over the next 12 months, these new officers will extend their skills through further on-the-job training and development in an operational environment.
