Police are working with local businesses and the wider community to reduce antisocial behaviour, particularly in the Coolum and Peregian Springs areas.
Officers from Coolum Police Station have been conducting high visibility patrols of busy areas including local shopping precincts, parks and other areas where young people congregate. As part of these patrols, they have also been conducting wanding under Jack’s Law, using a small handheld metal detector to scan a person for knives and other weapons.
Acting Officer in Charge of Coolum Police Station Senior Sergeant Joel Bryant says most of these interactions have been positive and is reminding parents of their responsibilities.
“It is important that we surround young people with the necessary support to direct them away from the criminal justice system and enable them to positively thrive in our community,” he said.
“Community safety starts in the home – and we encourage parents to join with us by setting clear behavioural expectations with their children to keep them, and our community safe.”
“We’re asking parents to work with police in preventing and disrupting any possible anti-social behaviour or offending and to be aware of your child’s whereabouts, who they are with, and what activities they are undertaking.”
