Logan police have launched a high-visibility operation focused on e-mobility device safety at Flagstone and surrounding suburbs this month, targeting unsafe and unlawful e-bike and e-scooter use while educating the community on the rules.
Officers from Logan Highway Patrol, the School-Based Police team, and supporting units, including the Mobile Police Beat and the Forensic Crash Unit, were deployed in the Flagstone school zone today, 24 March.
The operation coincided with the morning school drop-off, with a focus on engaging with students, parents, and road users about safe and legal e-mobility use. Officers also actively enforced school zone speed limits.
Police will use the Mobile Police Beat to engage directly with parents and caregivers, providing advice on e-bike laws, safety requirements, and the risks associated with unsafe riding behaviour.
Acting Senior Sergeant Duncan Hill from Logan Highway Patrol said the operation is about preventing serious injuries and improving community understanding of the rules.
“E-mobility devices, particularly e-bikes, are becoming increasingly popular, but we are continuing to see dangerous and illegal behaviour that puts riders and others at risk,” Acting Senior Sergeant Hill said.
“Our focus is on education first – making sure both riders and parents understand the rules, including speed limits, where these devices can be ridden, and the importance of wearing helmets.
“Police will be highly visible in and around school zones and e-mobility hotspots within the community, and while we will be taking enforcement action where required, this is really about education and keeping our community safe.”
Acting Senior Sergeant Hill said parents play a critical role in ensuring their children are using e-mobility devices legally and safely.
“We’re encouraging parents to have conversations with their kids about the rules and to make sure any e-bike or e-scooter being used is compliant with Queensland legislation.
“Something as simple as making sure a helmet is worn, or that the device meets legal requirements, can prevent serious injury or worse.”
Additional high-visibility patrols and education activities will also be conducted throughout the school holiday period at key community locations, including skate parks and shopping precincts in Flagstone, Yarrabilba and Greenbank.
Logan police are committed to continuing to run proactive operations and engagement activities as part of ongoing efforts to address e-mobility device safety concerns across the district.
